EV CHARGING STATIONS IN OPUSD:
We received grants from the California Department of Energy to install 4 EV charging stations at Oak Park High School and 4 AT Brookside Elementary School. The grant included the installation of energy storage units which are batteries that charge at night when our electricity rates are the lowest and dispense it during the day when the rates are the highest. The savings will pay for the cost of the car charging at all of the sites and provides even more savings in electrical costs to the District.
We received additional chargers from the Ventura County Air Pollution Control District grants which were installed at Medea Creek Middle School, Oak Park High School and the Oak View High School/Oak Park Independent School/District Office campus. Grants for Oak Hills Elementary School and Red Oak Elementary School were installed in phase 3.
Oak Park Unified School District provides EV charging at no cost as a benefit to employees and students. Others may charge their cars for a low hourly rate the covers the cost of the power.
